When You're Stopped at a Red Light, Make A Right Turn

Leah's MK Blog: When You're Stopped at a "Red Light", make a "Right Turn"

When people are stopped at a "Red Light" they have the option to either wait there and then continue going forward in the same direction "or" they can make a "Right Turn" against the "Red", thus choosing a new path to take and moving forward with gusto. Either way they can still end up at the original destination, or maybe, just maybe, someplace even better. I'd like to use this as an analogy for life's inevitable obstacles. Particularly people.

Isn't it funny how people can become a "red light" in your life, keeping you stuck in a perpetual holding pattern? You want to get somewhere but you can't, because for some reason you've allowed a person or people to keep you stuck. You tell people what you think will be good for you, and then you start to hear things like, "you're too young," or "you're too old," or "you don't need __________, you should be happy with what you already have," or "you just want to be better than everyone else,"...we've all heard these negative "red light" speeches a some point right?!

It's not limited material stuff, it can be a new job, having a baby, getting married, moving to a new town, loosing weight, gaining weight, etc. The truth is people are always going to be people, that is to say that you can't count on everyone you know to be a positive influence on your life. They might look like a friend or even a loved one on the outside, but on the inside, they are emotional vampires. Often times they'll even use their personal life drama to gain sympathy, glorifying their "victim-hood" in order to bring you down with them, to the perpetual pity party that is their life. Your life is too short to wait at that kind of "Red Light" or any other "Red Light" for that matter. Make a "Right Turn" against those "Red Light" people and move forward with joy for your life to begin or change for the better. Realize you have God-given talents and abilities and it's time to use them.

Here's how you make a "Right Turn" for the better at a "Red Light": Avoid listening to what the negative people say. Words have the power you give them, so when those "emotional vampires" attacking your goals and dreams don't give into them. Just walk away from those people, stop hanging out with them, acting like them, talking like them, and don't continually agree with what they think because you want to "please" them.
Note: If you live with an emotional vampire, kindly let them know that you don't appreciate or agree with their negativity. When they start to turn "ugly" spend little time with them; give them an emotional "time out". It may take awhile, but they will get the hint.

Instead get together with, listen to, and agree with people who are like minded. Fill your mind with good things. Spend the majority of your time with "Green Light" positive people who will encourage you, inspire you, and support you in the good life-changes you are trying to make.

{Now, hear my heart on this....when I say, "goals and dreams" and, "good life-changes" this doesn't include immoral, dangerous, destructive, abusive behaviors, or acts of selfishness, and willful neglect. In those cases I hope you do get many, many "red light" people in your life to stop you from making a bad choice.}

When it comes to Mary Kay the same analogy can apply. You can decided to create a beautiful successful you, when others' may want to hold you back. Remember those "emotional vampires".... they don't want to see you look or feel gorgeous, or be the best and reach your potential. No,...they want you to be dead inside and miserable because they are. But you can decide to listen to them or not. Stay the same or change. Be on trend or stuck in the past. It's up to you. You decide.

For this blog I'm going to end with a bit of Mary Kay Ash wisdom.
Mary Kay Ash, the founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics, used to say, "I believe women everywhere want to be good wives and good mothers, and yet they want to be recognized for their abilities by enjoying a successful career, and this is what we are offering to them."

It is because of my Mary Kay business, that I myself have found a kind a balance to life between serving the Lord, helping and supporting my family, and having a career. I'm grateful for that, and I'm grateful for those who have poured into me the education, praise, encouragement, and recognition I needed to make that "Right Turn" in the midst of so many "Red Lights", so that I could blossom in my life, as well as in my Mary Kay career. I'm so glad I listened to those dear friends. (You all are a blessing!)

Updates on Me, James, and Levi:
Had To Share: Well I am very happy to report to all of your that this past Tuesday, James was officially invited to become the new Service Arrangements Supervisor for the Forest Lawn Cypress/Longbeach offices. I, of course, am very proud of him and extremely grateful to the Lord for this answer to prayer. His first day at the Cypress location will be on the 14th! (Special thanks to Mike and Pam for hosting a party last night to celebrate James' success.) Many people have been asking if we are going to move, and answer is "yes"...Lord willing. It would be a very long drive for James from Glendale, albeit against traffic, and ultimately we would like to have a larger place with a small yard for Levi anyway. So we will be looking around in the next couple of weeks for our new home, and plan to make our 'big' move sometime in November. Don't worry we will be up this way to visit often, and will certainly keep in touch!

Girl Spoiler Alert: This week as I was trying to keep my look low key, fresh, and decidedly minimalist, I re-discovered my love of the Mary Kay "Vanilla Eyesicles". It comes in Bronze too for darker skin tones, but as you know I'm more 'latte' than 'espresso'. So this cream-to-powder eye color, pared with a light touch of mascara, lipgloss, and loose mineral powder did just the trick to give me a quick, whimsical look that didn't melt in the heat and smoke filled air of Glendale/Altadena. Ladies no matter what is going on in your life, heart, and head...it's important to remember to "Go to Your Pretty Place" everyday, be it simple, dramatic, or natural, and put on a touch of color that says, "I love just being me." Believe me those of you who have a boyfriend or a husband (or want one), he will notice it! No man wants to come home to find his sweetheart still in curlers, bathrobe, and with no "pretty place" makeup on. I think it scares them away. Those of you who are saying, "Down to love" at the moment, still should consider the distinct possibility that your knight in shining armor will be more inclined to fall for you looking like a "Lady of the court" and not some "dreary ole' kitchen maid"...you never know who's looking right? =)

Have a wonderful week friends and God bless you.

Yours delightfully,
Leah Slemmons
